Sometimes it can be a bit daunting coming along to a new clinic. It might be your first time having acupuncture or perhaps your first visit to a multibed clinic. Here we’ll answer some of the questions that you might have.
At the first appointment we’ll get you to fill out your details and answer a quick questionnaire giving us a little more information about your symptoms and why you are coming for treatment. We’ll then do a consultation – checking in from top to toe to see how things are out of balance. If you are feeling pain we’ll ask about the nature of the pain, the location, what makes it better and what makes it worse.
We’ll take a look at your tongue and take your pulse. This gives us some additional information about the organs and your energy levels throughout the body.
Then we’ll get you comfortable – it may be in a chair or laying on a massage table and the needles will be put in place. It’s a good idea to wear loose comfortable clothing if you can – this makes it easy for us to get to elbows & knees and some of the other places we are likely to use.
We’ll leave you to rest comfortably – whilst we move on to the next person.
When your time is up – usually between 20-40 minutes we’ll come an take the needles out and have a chat about the next steps. We’ll put together a treatment plan so you have an idea of how many treatments you will need before we do a review.
That’s it really. After the treatment you will normally feel very relaxed but can go on with your day as normal. It’s good to take it easy for a couple of hours if you can and make sure you don’t rush about – so you can keep the relaxation response lasting.
Over the next few days it’s a good idea to pay attention to how you are feeling – what changes you notice and anything else that comes up that you might want to talk about at your follow up appointment.
I hope that’s helped to answer your questions – but if there is anything else you’d like to know more about – please get in touch before your appointment and we can answer your questions.
